Desiccant Systems

Desiccant systems absorb moisture from the outside air and/or return air in building air conditioning systems. Because of this, conventional cooling equipment can be reduced or eliminated. In most cases, a chiller plant can be down-sized, which means less artificial refrigerant is necessary if the vapour compression cycle is used.

Desiccant systems are used in supermarkets where they improve product presentation, reduce defrost and anti-sweat energy, and improve comfort levels near cold cabinets. These systems are also suitable for use in cold stores, hospitals, nursing homes, hotels, fast food outlets, convention centres and entertainment venues.

Dry air may be further cooled by indirect evaporative cooling.
