Envestra generates its revenue by charging energy retailers for the transport of Natural Gas to their customers, through the Company's networks and pipelines.

Envestra's origins date back more than 130 years to the gas distribution networks of the former South Australian and Brisbane Gas Companies. These networks were acquired by Envestra in 1997.

In 1999, the Company acquired one of the gas distribution businesses sold by the Victorian government.

Today, Envestra owns about 18,400 kilometres of gas distribution networks and 1,100 kilometres of transmission pipelines. The Company's networks serve almost one million consumers in every mainland Australian state except Western Australia, with about 20,000 new consumers being connected every year.
